Philadelphia Explosion – Gas Leak Suspected Source
An explosion in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia injured five people, destroyed two homes, and damaged more than 40 others. Investigators suspect that a gas leak is the source of the blast which occurred just before 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The Fire Marshal’s office is still working to identify the cause.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene in the 3500 block of Miller Street. They pulled two of the injured from the rubble and dug through debris to rescue another. The five injured people were transported to area hospitals where one of them remains in critical condition.
