Woodbury, MN house fire kills one, defeats rescue attempts

Explosion lawyer Black smoke from an explosion

A Woodbury, MN house fire has killed the resident of the home after beating back rescue efforts. The blaze happened on the 300 block of Meadow Lane on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. The only occupant of the house, Eddie L. Woodson, 66, was killed in the fire.

Joshua Anderson, a neighbor of Mr. Woodson, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, “My wife jumps up and screams, ‘Oh my god, Eddie’s house is on fire!’ ” Mr. Anderson ran to the scene and tried unsuccessfully to kick in the side door. He did manage to kick in the front door, but was met with a solid wall of smoke that showed that it was far too dangerous to enter.

Cristy Vandeberg who was driving past on her morning commute, also tried to help. Working with a man who is as-yet unidentified, she broke a window and considered climbing into the burning house. But the fire was too intense. According to the Star-Tribune, Vandeberg said her fellow would-be rescuer was ready to go in the house, “but I told him, ‘You can’t go in or else they’ll be taking out two bodies.’ ”

All three would-be rescuers tried shouting, but there was no response from inside the house. When the fire department arrived, the house was engulfed in flames.
