Explosion During Tank Cleaning at CRU Railcar Services in TX Kills 1, Injures 5

An explosion at CRU Railcar Services in Elmendorf, TX while a tank was being cleaned on May 10 killed one employee and injured another. Gary Garza, 39, died in the explosion. Five others were injured including one man was severely injured when he was impaled by a cable.

The blast occurred around 12:55 p.m. at the Alamo Junction Rail Park, 16456 Old Corpus Christi Road while a team was cleaning a tanker. A crew from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was on the scene investigating the cause of the explosion.
