Lake of the Ozarks Boat Explosion Injures 6 People, Including 3 Children

A boat explosion on Lake of the Ozarks seriously injured six people, including three minor, on Tuesday afternoon. The 26-foot Sea Ray Sundeck boat was docked near the 10.4-mile marker of the lake’s Osage Arm when it exploded. Five people, including James Hohenstein (47), Kari Hoenstein (46), Brad Vanwinkle (36), a 16-year-old boy, and a 12-year-old boy, were seriously injured. A two-year-old boy suffered minor injuries. Four people were taken to Lake Regional Hospital and two others were flown to University Hospital. All six passengers aboard the boat are Nebraska residents. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the fuel-related fire was caused by a mechanical problem. An investigation is ongoing.
