Propane Explosion Near Turtle Lake Leaves 2 Dead in Itasca County, MN

Investigators have determined that a propane explosion was the source of a fire at a home near Turtle Lake in Itasca County, MN that left two people dead. The person who called 911 reported hearing a loud bang before the fire broke out just before 7:30 a.m. on January 24.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene in the 52800 block of Turtle Lake View Path, about five miles southwest of Bigfork, the house was fully engulfed in flames.  There were fallen power lines and debris scattered all over the property.

Killed in the blast was Roy E. Halverson, 92,  of Bigfork, and his daughter Christie L. Kurtz, 62, of Milaca.
