Woman Dies in Southgate House Explosion

Officials believe that medical oxygen tanks may have played a role in a house explosion in Southgate, MI that left one woman dead. A series of blasts, which occurred just before 10 a.m. this morning, destroyed the home located in the 13400 block of Cunningham St. and damaged neighboring homes.

Neighbors told the Detroit Free Press that they could feel the ground shake from the force of the first blast and three more followed in rapid succession.  The 59-year-old woman, who used oxygen because she suffered from emphysema, was the only person inside the home when it exploded. An investigation is underway.
