Friends Hold Fundraiser for Man Injured in DeKalb, GA Explosion

Friends are holding a fundraiser for Charlie Shearer, 55, who was injured in an explosion at JCS Enterprise Trailer Repair in DeKalb last month. Doctors have placed Shearer, who suffered burns over 75 percent of his body, in a medically induced coma. They expect his hospital stay to be months-long.

To help pay for those bills, friends have organized an April 28 event that includes a live auction, live music and barbecue at Lakeside Auction.

JCS is tractor-trailer repair company located in the 4300 block of Old McDonough Road. Shearer was injured in an explosion at JCS on February 14, 2019. The blast occurred around 9:20 a.m. while Shearer was using cutting and welding tools to repair the floor of a semitrailer.  A fire followed the explosion engulfing the rig in flames.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the explosion.

Burn patients are placed in medically induced comas to control pain. These injuries are excruciating. The explosion burn lawyers at Pritzker Hageman represent clients who suffer severe injuries in explosions. Recently, they secured a multi-million settlement for one client who sustained burns over 70 percent of his body and endured more than 15 surgeries during his recovery.  Fred Pritzker and Eric Hageman understand that no amount of money can replace what is lost when someone is injured in an explosion. But, they also know how substantial the financial burden of treatment for these injuries can be.
