A Clinton, IA explosion at ADM Grains has killed Lieutenant Eric Hosette of the Clinton Fire Department. He leaves behind a wife and young daughter.

Lieutenant Hosette, 33, was rushed to Mercy Medical. Medical personnel tried to revive him, but could not.

Firefighter Adam Cain was injured in the blast. Temporarily missing after the explosion, he was found and airlifted to Iowa City. He is listed in critical but stable condition.

According to KWQC TV6, Mike Brown, Fire Chief of the Clinton Fire Department, was visibly emotional when he spoke of the loss. “Healing will take a long time,” he said.

The tragedy happened at the loading area of the ADM Grains Clinton facility. Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the silo storage bins. As they fought the fire, an explosion occurred.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and explosion.
