Explosion at DAB Constructors in Leesburg, FL Injures 1

One person was injured in an explosion at DAB Constructors Inc. in Leesburg, FL at around 6:10 this morning. First responders were called to the scene at 1233 Commerce Street after a silo at the facility, which manufactures asphalt, exploded.

Officials said a malfunctioning valve on the hopper was the source of the blast. More than 20,000 gallons of asphalt spilled from the silo before crews were able to shut the valve.

“Investigators should be looking at which safety protocols the plant had in place,” said Fred Pritzker, an explosion lawyer at Pritzker Hageman, which represents people who have been injured in explosions.
