Fire at Arundel Lodge Group Home in Severn, MD Kills Three

Three people were killed in a tragic fire on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at an Arundel Lodge group home at 7900 Stone Heart Road in Severn, Maryland. The Arundel County Fire Department identified the victims as: Walter McCardell, , William Garcia, and Barbara Brown, an employee of the home who was from Brooklyn. Arundel Lodge Group Home is near Baltimore.

Four of the home’s occupants escaped the fire, which started around 10:00 pm. It took firefighters about an hour to put out the fire. The fire is being investigated by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit. No one knows yet how the fire started.

Smoke alarms were working at the time; firefighters said they heard the alarms going off when they arrived on the scene. Officials think that Ms. Brown was trying to save residents and died in the attempt. First responders apparently found Mr. McCardell first, then located Mr. Garcia and Ms. Brown who were together. All were pronounced dead at the scene.

People who live nearby said that they heard a large boom when the fire started, suggesting there may have been an explosion.. Firefighters discovered a large fire at the back of the house. Investigators are asking that anyone who may have pictures or videos of the fire to call 410-222-TIPs.
