Roadside Construction Explosion Accident in Harpersville, Alabama Kills Man

A contract worker for a gas company was killed in a roadside construction explosion accident at Highway 280 and Farmingdale Drive in Harpersville, Alabama on May 9, 2018. The tragedy happened at about 7:00 in the morning.

The Shelby County Coroner told ABC3340.com that the man was 36-year-old Christopher Anderson who lived in Mississippi. No other workers were injured in the explosion.

The construction crew was putting in natural gas lines. According to CBS 42, the explosion occurred in a large Conex container that was on the back of a flatbed trailer. Someone opened the door to the container, which then exploded.

A nearby home was damaged, along with three vehicles. The eastbound lanes of highway 280 were shut down for more than four hours while emergency responders worked. Local residents said that the explosion could be felt up to a mile away. Some news reports are stating that there may have been a gas leak.
