Woman Dies, Man Injured in Beaver Dam House Fire

An elderly woman died and her husband was injured in a house fire in Beaver Dam, WI on Thanksgiving Day. Firefighters arrived at the house at N7295 Watercress Lane at about 10:00 P.M. Eleanor “Ellie” Neumann (85) and Ruben Neumann (92) were found trapped in the basement. Local news reports that Eleanor was found near a fire extinguisher. Family believes she was trying to put out a fire caused by an electric blanket.

Both victims were taken to Marshfield Medical Center, where Eleanor later died. Ruben was sent to UW-Madison Burn Center, where he underwent surgery last Friday. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
