Zionsville Explosion of Trailers Filled with Fireworks: 1 Dead, 1 Injured

An explosion in Zionsville, PA yesterday left one person dead and another badly injured. Authorities are still trying to determine what set off a series of explosions inside two tractor-trailers filled with fireworks that were parked on a property in the 8400 block of Orchard Road.

Area residents said they heard the first blast around 3 p.m. Some said their windows were blown out as the explosions continued for 45 minutes. Black plumes of smoke could be seen miles away.

The explosions blew apart one of the tractor-trailers and destroyed one of the structures on the property.

State police, the bomb squad, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were all called to the scene. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the explosions.
