Gas Line Rupture Causes San Antonio House Explosion That injures 1
A gas line rupture on San Antonio’s East Side caused a house explosion that left one person with serious burn injuries. Three people were inside the home located near the intersection of South Walters and Martin Luther King Drive when the blast occurred just before 11 pm on May 1. Two people who sustained minor injuries were treated at the scene. A third person who severe burn injuries was transported to an area hospital.
When San Antonio Fire Department crews arrived, flames were leaping through the roof of the home and all three people trapped inside, according to news reports. Firefighters rescued the person who was severely burned. The two others were able to make it out on their own.
A fire department spokesperson told local media that a pocket of gas inside the gas line caused a rupture that was the source of the explosion. A crew from CPS Energy had to dig up the street to get to the shut-off valve.
