Explosion at Magellan Storage Facility in Corpus Christi Injures 7
Seven people were injured in an explosion at the Magellan refinery in Corpus Christi, four are in critical condition and one has been admitted to a burn center in San Antonio. The December 5th explosion occurred around 10: 00 a.m. when a fire broke out as a contract crew was working to clean and inspect a storage tank.
Firefighters responded to the facility, located in 1800 block of Poth Lane and Interstate Highway 37, within minutes.
Magellan routinely cleans and inspects tanks at the facility as part of its safety protocols. The above-ground storage tank in question was holding some residual light crude oil. Officials have not yet determined what caused the fire. An investigation is ongoing.
