Ruptured Gas Line Explosion in San Antonio Injures 1

A man suffered extensive burn injuries in an explosion and fire that engulfed his San Antonio home last night after a CPS Energy crew ruptured a gas line with an excavator. Neighbors rushed to pull the man from the burning building. He was transported to an area hospital.

The blast occurred around 10 p.m. in the 1700 block E. Highland Boulevard near Rigsby Avenue. Residents said the sound of the explosion could be heard blocks away. An intense fire following the blast raged through a duplex and house.

Pedro Gonzalez and his father were two of the neighbors who ran to save the man. Gonzalez told News4SA:

“The fire was uncontrollable,” he said. “The heat was in my face. the smoke was in my eyes. The smoke was in my lungs. I didn’t go in further because the fire was burning out of control. When we got the guy out, he was burned from head to toe.”
