Zanesville, OH Explosion, Fire Injures 7 Family Members, 1 Child Dies
One child died and seven other family members were injured in an explosion and fire at their Zanesville, OH home. Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 10:45 a.m. on March 3, the two-story home, located on U.S. 40 near the airport exit, was fully engulfed. Children were climbing out second-story windows to escape the blaze, according to a witness.
Seven people were taken to an area hospital. Firefighters knelt in the driveway when the body of the small child was carried from the home.
A witness told local media that a loud explosion followed by a series of popping sounds preceded the fire. An investigation to determine the source of the blaze is underway.
