Explosion Injures 13 in Woodbridge, New Jersey

Winnebago County Iowa Grain

Thirteen people were injured in an explosion and fire at a home at 121 Vernon Way in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge, New Jersey on Saturday, April 21, 2018. A sleepover birthday party for a 10-year-old was taking place at the home at the time.

The incident occurred around 9:50 a.m. when residents said they heard the explosion and saw fire. The entire home was ablaze by the time firefighters arrived, with flames shooting from the windows. Firefighters from seven different departments responded to the fire.

Six adults were hospitalized with third-degree burns, and seven children suffered from smoke inhalation. Two of the adults are in critical condition. One was airlifted to Saint Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, and another was airlifted to RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick.

The incident was especially dangerous because of the relatively large number of people in the home at the time, and the number of children at the party. The people who were in the house range in age from 2 to 60 years old. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the homeowners.

The accident is under investigation. One of the party’s attendees said that the boiler in the basement blew through the floor, according to a report from NBC4. Other news reports suggest that some of those in the home said they smelled gas before the explosion occurred.

A gas leak is an indication that something is very wrong. A faulty appliance, such as a boiler or a furnace, can cause a gas leak. Gas leaks can also be caused by a faulty gas line connection. All it takes is one spark, and an explosion will occur.

Burns resulting from explosion fires are devastating to the patients. Medical procedures used to treat burned skin can involve a lot of pain, and can take a long time to heal. And these patients will have lifelong emotional and physical scars from their injuries.
